TrueRim 1K Automotive Primer — 12 oz Aerosol

A ready-to-spray 1K primer that does the two jobs color cannot do for itself: it grips the surface you have prepared, and it fills the fine sanding scratches so the film under your basecoat is level. Available in Grey or Black — gray under light colors, black under dark ones. Reds and maroons go over Grey, even dark ones.

No mixing, no compressor, no spray gun. Sized for wheels, calipers, trim and spot repairs.

How to use it

  • Prep first. Scuff the entire surface to P600–P800 until there are no glossy patches left, then clean it with wax & grease remover using two cloths. Primer will not stick to shine, oxide or grease.
  • Shake for at least 60 seconds after the mixing ball starts to rattle, then test spray on scrap card before you go near the part.
  • Hold the can 8–10 inches away and overlap each pass by 50%. Start and finish each pass off the edge of the part, never over it.
  • First coat light — almost a dust coat. It is supposed to look thin and patchy. Then two medium coats to full coverage, allowing 5–10 minutes flash between coats at 68°F.
  • Let it harden 30–60 minutes, then dry sand P600–P1000 until it is smooth and free of nibs. Blow the dust off and tack it — do not wipe fresh primer with wax & grease remover, it will streak.
  • Apply your basecoat within 24 hours of the last primer coat. A freshly dried coat is still slightly porous and bonds better; past a day, lay one more light primer coat first.
  • When you finish, invert the can and spray until the valve runs clear, so the nozzle is not welded shut next time.

Conditions: spray at 65–77°F and under 60% humidity, out of direct sunlight and never on a hot surface. Cold slows everything down.

This is an undercoat, not a finish. Primer is not weather-resistant, UV-stable or scratch-resistant on its own and must be covered with basecoat and clear coat.

Wear nitrile gloves and eye protection, and spray in a well-ventilated area.
