Ford Sparkle Silver - 12 oz. Aerosol
Color match: we mix to your vehicle's factory paint code. Final appearance can vary with the age, wear and condition of the existing finish, so we recommend a test spray before full application.
Ford Sparkle Silver - 12 oz. Aerosol.
A professional basecoat paint color manufactured for wheel application matched to Ford's "Sparkle Silver Metallic". A classic bright metallic base with a highly active, high-reflection flake that catches the light sharply without looking like an aftermarket glitter coat.
The aerosol is ready to use, ideal for quick touch-ups and spot repairs.
Basecoat formula — clear coat is required and sold separately. We HIGHLY recommend pairing with one of our TrueRim 1K Automotive Primer, 12oz Aerosol Can(s).

Complete the job
Clear coat, primer, reducer and prep supplies to finish the job.
Clear coat, primer and prep supplies to finish an aerosol repair.
The process
How to apply it
Step by step for panels and parts, from a spot repair to a full panel. Use the Aerosol tab for the spray can and the Spray gun tab for Pint, Quart and Gallon. Times and figures come from our printed guides and the paint and clear makers' data sheets.
You'll need
The kit builder above adds the color, clear coat and primer for the size you pick, plus the reducer we highly recommend with a Pint, Quart or Gallon.
Color (basecoat): this paint, in the size that fits the job.
The 12 oz (340 g) aerosol is ready to spray, with nothing to mix, and suits touch-ups, spot repairs and small parts, up to a single panel.Clear coat (required): basecoat dries flat, with no gloss or protection of its own; the clear coat supplies both.
Over the aerosol, use a SprayMax 2K aerosol clear.Primer, only where it's needed: bare metal, body filler and sand-throughs (spots where sanding cut through to primer or metal).
Sound factory paint needs sanding, not primer. TrueRim 1K primer comes in Grey and Black: Grey under most colors; Black under dark colors with no red in them. The kit builder picks the shade for this color. Also on hand: sandpaper, a scuff pad, wax & grease remover, masking, test cards and safety gear.
Sandpaper (P180, P320 and P600–P800), a gray scuff pad, wax & grease remover, lint-free wipes, masking tape and paper, a tack cloth, test cards (a spray-out card: a small primed card or scrap panel you spray exactly like the car), a respirator, gloves and eye protection. The kit builder's optional prep supplies include the scuff pads, wax & grease remover and lint-free wipes.
This color comes as an aerosol only, so there are no spray-gun steps.

In short
Plan: Test card
Test card first: spray color and clear on a card, let it dry, and check it against the car in daylight.Prep: Clean
Wash and dry, then wax & grease remover with two cloths: on with one, off with the other.Prep: Sand
Sand: P180 on the damage only, featheredge (taper the paint edge until no step can be felt) to P320, then P600–P800 on the whole part until no gloss is left.Prep: Mask
Mask, final wipe with wax & grease remover, then tack cloth.Prime
Prime only bare metal, filler and sand-throughs; adhesion promoter first on raw plastic. Let the 1K primer harden 30–60 min, dry sand it P600–P1000, then tack only.Color
Color: medium coats at 6–8 in, with a 5–10 min flash (the wait until the wet shine goes evenly dull) between coats, until even and no primer shows.Clear: 2K clear
SprayMax 2K clear 30–60 min after the last color coat, in the same session (24 h at most), usually 2 coats.
Full aerosol steps, times and clear table
| Step | What to do | Before the next step |
|---|---|---|
| Conditions | Spray at 65–77°F and under 60% humidity, out of direct sun, on a panel that is cool to the touch. SprayMax 2K clears work best at 64–77°F; colder air slows the cure. Times here assume about 70°F: every 18°F colder roughly doubles them, so at 50°F expect about twice as long, and heat shortens them. Keep cans at room temperature; to warm a cold can, stand it in hand-warm tap water, never above 122°F. | — |
| 1 · Test card | Before you prep, spray a test card exactly as you'll spray the car: the same primer shade, the same number of color coats, then clear. Once it's dry, hold it against the car in daylight and look straight on and at a low angle; metallics and pearls change with the angle. Judge the match on the card, never in the can or on a screen. | Let it dry before you judge it: 2–4 h for solid colors, 8 h or more for tri-coats. |
| 2 · Plan | Decide which parts you are painting. | — |
| 3 · Clean | Wash with soap and water and let it dry completely. Then use wax & grease remover with two clean, lint-free cloths: wipe it on with one and off with the other before it dries. One cloth only spreads the contamination around. | — |
| 4 · Sand | Damage and bodywork first: P180 on the damage only, then featheredge the edges smooth, finishing at P320. Then the whole part: P600–P800 dry or P800–P1200 wet, until no shiny spots are left. | — |
| 5 · Mask | Mask everything you are not painting. Final wipe with wax & grease remover, then a tack cloth with almost no pressure. | — |
| 6 · Primer | Prime only bare metal, body filler and sand-throughs; sanded factory paint doesn't need it. Raw plastic: one light coat of adhesion promoter, then a 5–10 min flash before primer or color. TrueRim 1K primer (small sand-throughs and spot work): Grey under most colors; Black under dark colors with no red in them. Shake 60 s from when the mixing ball starts to rattle and test spray on a card, then one light coat at 8–10 in and 2 medium coats, 50% overlap. Larger bare-steel or filler areas: SprayMax 2K epoxy primer. Activate it like the 2K clear (step 8), then 2–3 coats with 5–10 min between them. Applied that way, one can primes about 3–5 sq ft (SprayMax rates 12 sq ft at a single 0.8 mil film). | 1K primer: 5–10 min between coats. Let it harden 30–60 min, dry sand P600–P1000, then tack only: wax & grease remover dissolves fresh primer. Color within 24 h, or lay one fresh light primer coat first. 2K epoxy: use the activated can within 3 days. To color over it without sanding, wait at least 15 min and color within 12 h. Otherwise let it harden 12–16 h at 68°F, dry sand P400–P600, then blow off and tack. |
| 7 · Color | Shake 60 s from when the mixing ball starts to rattle. Medium coats at 6–8 in, 50% overlap, usually 3, until the color is even and no primer shows. Reds, yellows, oranges and light silvers hide less and can take more coats, so check spot-primed areas closely. On metallics and pearls, finish with one lighter, even coat at the same distance and speed so the flake lies evenly. The color dries flat; the gloss comes from the clear. | Flash (the wait between coats, until the wet shine goes evenly dull): at least 5–10 min at 70°F, and until the masking tape at the edge isn't tacky. Cold or humid air can double it. Clear 30–60 min after the last color coat, in the same session; 24 h at most. |
| 8 · 2K clear | Shake 2 min from when the mixing ball starts to rattle → take the red button from the cap, turn the can over and fit it on the base pin → stand it upside down on a firm surface and press with your palm until it clicks (this releases the hardener) → shake 2 min more → test spray. Usually 2 coats at 6–8 in (see the table for your clear). Don't add a heavy third coat; it runs or traps solvent. | Flash per the clear table. Once activated, use the can within about 48 h (Glamour, Satin, Matte) or about 8 h (High Speed) at 68°F; warmer is shorter. Activate a can only when the color is ready for clear, and have every can for the job on hand. |
Technique Re-shake 10–15 s between coats. Start and stop each pass off the panel or part. Keep the can square to the surface and move your arm, not your wrist. Never swap nozzles between cans.
Fix A run or a dust speck in the color: don't wet sand it; water gets into basecoat and stays. Let it dry 30 min or more, dry sand just the defect with P1000–P1500, blow off and tack, then lay one full color coat over the whole part.

Handling and wash times are from our printed guide and the SprayMax data sheets. Times assume about 70°F: every 18°F colder roughly doubles them, so at 50°F expect about twice as long, and heat shortens them. SprayMax clears work best at 64–77°F. Forced drying (Glamour, Satin, Matte): 60 min at 140°F after a 10 min flash, or 15 min under an infrared (IR) lamp. High Speed: a 10–15 min flash, then 10–20 min IR at 140°F. A hair dryer is not a substitute.
Sizing
How much paint do I need?
- It depends on the job, the color and your technique. Plan on 2–3 medium-wet coats, or until the color is even.
- Reds, yellows, oranges and light silvers hide less and can take extra coats. Size up for these.
- The 12 oz (340 g) aerosol is for touch-ups, spot repairs and small parts.
- One SprayMax 2K Glamour, Satin or Matte can covers about 5.4–8.1 sq ft (plan on 5.4); High Speed covers about 3.2–5.8 sq ft (plan on 3.2). Have every can before you start: once activated, Glamour, Satin and Matte must be used within about 48 hours, High Speed within about 8 hours, at 68°F.
- Doing a set of four wheels? Painters report 2–3 cans of color and 2 cans of SprayMax 2K clear.
- Buy one spare can of each.

Straight answers
Common questions
Where do I find my paint code?
Match by paint code, not color name; one name can cover several codes. The code is on a label on the car, most often in the driver's door jamb, glove box, trunk or spare-tire area, or under the hood.
No label? A dealer parts department can look up the code from your VIN. If the car has been repainted, check the code against the paint before you order.
Factory wheel colors often aren't on the door-jamb label. Email info@truerim.com if you're unsure.
Will it match my car?
It's matched to the factory color. Factory paint still varies: the same code can come from different plants and paint suppliers, and paint fades with age. Check it on a test card first (step 1 of How to apply). If the card doesn't match, email info@truerim.com before you paint.
Which size should I buy?
The 12 oz (340 g) aerosol is ready to spray, with no gun, compressor or mixing, and suits touch-ups, spot repairs and small parts, up to a single panel.
Do I need clear coat?
Yes. This is a basecoat: it dries flat and needs a clear coat for gloss and protection. Over the aerosol, use a SprayMax 2K aerosol clear: Glamour or High Speed for gloss, Satin or Matte for a lower sheen (Satin and Matte can't be polished).
Do I need primer?
Only on bare metal, body filler and sand-throughs; sound factory paint just needs sanding. Raw plastic gets one light coat of adhesion promoter first. For small spots, use TrueRim 1K primer: Grey under most colors; Black under dark colors with no red in them. The kit builder picks the shade for this color. For larger bare-steel or filler areas, use SprayMax 2K epoxy primer.
What does "multi-stage", "pearl" or "tri-coat" mean?
Most colors are one basecoat under clear. A tri-coat (three-stage) color has two color layers under the clear: a ground coat (the base color), then a mid-coat (a pearl or tinted layer). "Multi-stage" covers tri-coats and any other color with more than one color layer. Where the description shows Stage 1/2 and Stage 2/2, both layers come in every size, the price covers both, and no separate undercoat is needed: Stage 1 is the ground coat (if the description names an undercoat code, that code is Stage 1 and is included), and Stage 2 follows the same application steps as Stage 1, in light, even coats. Where a description without Stage 1/2 and Stage 2/2 calls for an undercoat, named or not, that undercoat is included with every size at one price too. In Pint, Quart and Gallon, each color layer is mixed 2 parts paint to 1 part reducer. The number of mid-coat coats sets the shade, so spray a let-down card first (see How to apply).
Why ground shipping only?
Every order ships UPS Ground; air and express aren't available. Paint, aerosols, clear coats, reducers and solvents are regulated as hazardous materials, so they travel by ground, and the whole order ships that way. UPS Ground usually takes 1–5 business days from Seekonk, MA, plus processing. Free UPS Ground shipping on orders of $300 or more after discounts; if a discount brings the order below $300, the standard UPS Ground rate applies. See our shipping policy.
Can I return paint?
Not once it's opened or used. Clear coats, hardeners, reducers, primers and solvents are hazardous materials and can't be returned, opened or not. If we sent the wrong item, or it arrives damaged or defective, email info@truerim.com within 24 hours of delivery with photos of the item, the label and the box, and keep the packaging. Other unopened, unused items can be returned within 10 days of delivery: email us first for approval and a label; approved refunds are less processing fees and shipping. See our refund policy.
Can I order more later to match?
Yes. Order this same color again; it's matched to the same factory color.
How long before I can mount tires?
Aerosol 2K clear: 48–72 hours at 64–77°F; cold can double it.
